Belgian BeersTraditional fruit beerLiefmans Kriek Brut Since taking over Duvel have renamed Liefmans Kriek as Kriek Brut and it too is still an extaordinary beer. The creation of Cuvee Brut starts with whole cherries been soaked in old brown ale in large shallow tanks. The mixture is matured for a year before being blended with more old brown ale and Goudenband (above). Kriek Brut has a hazy cloudy appearance, is red-brown in colour but with a rose head. The aroma is of cherries, wood and almond, the initial taste is fruit with perfumy flavours evolving and lingering. It will age and mature in the bottle for upto 10 years.
